Omexom staff practice total plastic recycling
VINCI Environment Day is an annual global initiative organized by the VINCI Group to raise awareness and promote action on environmental issues among employees, partners, and sometimes local communities.
The day focuses on topics such as climate change, sustainable construction, biodiversity, waste management, energy efficiency, and circular economy practices.
For VINCI Environment Day, Omexom New Zealand launched a nationwide Caps and Lids Recycling Challenge to spotlight a waste stream that often goes unnoticed — metal caps and lids.
While these items are technically recyclable, they frequently slip through standard recycling systems because they require separate drop-off at designated collection points. As a result, many end up in landfill, contributing unnecessarily to waste and resource loss.
The challenge aimed to:
- Raise awareness about recycling small, everyday items.
- Encourage collective responsibility by engaging teams across the country.
- Demonstrate practical action by diverting materials that would otherwise be wasted.
Participation was strong, with 10 teams nationwide joining forces to collect caps and lids from offices, homes, and communities.
Together, we collected close to 22,000 caps and lids, ensuring these materials were properly recycled through the Caps and Lids Recycling Scheme instead of going to landfill.
