Omexom winners at Transpower STAR Awards
Two of our Omexom New Zealand staff walked on stage to receive two awards at the Transpower STAR Awards last week. Trainee Electrician Ruby Raymond (Power Services Northern) was selected as winner of the Future of Safety Award, in recognition of her exceptional initiative and courage in championing safety across worksites.
Her proactive approach was highlighted as leading to tangible improvements, including the implementation of a locking system to secure cable drum stands, an idea she proposed after identifying a serious risk. Her participation in Girls in Hi-Vis was also recognised for helping develop greater interest in our industry among young women.
Senior Project Manager Charlton Carney (Power Services Southern) was selected as the winner of the Safety Innovation award for designing, building and testing a live cable indicator system that was easy-to-install and cost-effective.
After recognising a critical safety gap, Charlton developed the simple yet effective LED indicator system, providing real-time visual confirmation of live high-voltage cables for indoor switchroom basements.
It was a great night of celebration and connecting to those in our industry. Well done to Ruby and Charlton, and the other winners and finalists!
