Safety Leaders Day – Focus on exemplary leadership

On 20th March 2024, Omexom New Zealand hosted our Safety Leaders Day, providing an opportunity for the wider team to come together.  Our goal was to focus on the roles of our frontline, operations, and executive managers as safety leaders.  This event is a key part of our ongoing safety excellence journey, ensuring that all our people return home without harm, everyone, every day.

In today’s rapidly changing workplace environment, safety leaders play a key role.  Our leaders are responsible for ensuring compliance and for shaping the safety culture within Omexom.  They set the conditions and expectations in the business, so if  we want our people to be safe, we have to demonstrate that safety is the priority.

By influencing our mindset, culture, and the way we operate, we foster a commitment to safety, contributing to the wellbeing of all in the business and the communities we operate in.

During the event, we delved into the who, why, what, and how of the safety leader’s role.  Exemplary leadership was a central theme as we continue our journey toward safety excellence.  We engaged in discussions about effective communication, streamlined procedures, sharing lessons learned, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
